The Greyboy Allstars have detailed a 21-date tour in support of a newly-announced covers album, Get a Job: Music from the Original Broadcast Series Soul Dream, out on April 1st via Knowledge Room Recordings. The jazz-fusion quintet also shared the album’s first single on Tuesday, releasing a music video for Edwin Bocage and Al Scramuzza‘s “I’ve Got Reasons”.

The band—comprised of saxophonist Karl Denson, guitarist Elgin Park, organist Robert Walter, bassist Chris Stillwell, and drummer Aaron Redfield—will get things started at Asheville, NC’s Salvage Station on March 9th before working up through Charleston, SC (3/10); Atlanta, GA (3/11); and St. Augustine, FL (3/12). A romp through the Midwest will send the band back to the east coast in April with shows in Pembroke, MA (4/5) and Woodstock, NY (4/6).

From there, the Greyboy Allstars will mount a Brooklyn Bowl mini-run featuring two nights at the music venue/bowling alley’s flagship location in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (4/7, 4/8) and a stop at the new Brooklyn Bowl location in Philadelphia, PA (4/9).

Following a stop in Washington, D.C. (4/10), the tour will move west, where GBA will spend two nights at Crystal Bay Club Casino in Nevada (4/15, 4/16) ahead of shows in Venice, CA (4/21); Denver, CO (4/22); and Boulder, CO (4/23). The tour will end with a stop at New Orleans, LA’s famed Tipitina’s on April 30th.

Get a Job: Music from the Original Broadcast Series Soul Dream will mark The Greyboy Allstars’ sixth studio output. Captured during the band’s studio sessions as part of its 2021 Soul Dream livestream series, the album is comprised of ten unique, never-before-released covers that have become an integral part of the band’s live shows. The record will include reimaginings of George Harrison‘s “Taxman”, Burt Bacharach and Hal David‘s “Walk On By”, Gary Bartz and Langston Hughes‘ “I’ve Known Rivers”, and more.

“We keep a running master list of around 70 tunes. From those I picked a mixture of tried-and-true live staples and songs that weren’t always in common rotation,” said band Walter of the Get a Job set. “Usually, for gigs I propose a list and then the other members edit and tweak it. For the taping, we wanted each episode to have a theme: two of them focused on originals and the other two were covers: live favorites, and music that came out on Prestige Records. The tunes on this release are the best of the covers.”

“The covers come from the tradition of the artists we love and how they would grab the pop tunes of the day, most likely to broaden their listening base. George Benson, Grant Green, and Kenny Burrell all did Beatles and Bacharach tunes,” added Park.
